CB2 Filing Cabinet - Your Organizational Companion

6/5/2016

Comments

Getting drawers or a filing cabinet for your workspace to store odds and ends or things you don't use on a daily basis is a life changer. Keeping tidy will help focus your workflow and allow you to spend time on what is important. CB2's TPS 3-drawer Filing Cabinet is an ideal candidate for a wide range of setups.

Getting Organized

When I said getting a filing cabinet is a life changer I really meant it. Instead of thinking about where to put things in piles of disarray, you will naturally start thinking in terms of workflow and what tools you need for the task at hand. For example, do you need to have all of your books/notebooks within sight at all times? Do you need to have all of your camera gear out? How about your headphones?

A huge side-benefit of staying organized is that you will be able to unload the background mental burden of trying to remember where you put things, eventually freeing you up to spend cycle on important things. You'll also be confident that you can find anything within a moment's notice because you've transferred this knowledge from your head to the physical storage location.

In summary, getting organized is not only about aesthetics, but also your mental state. Getting a good desk storage system is a big first step as this is where we spend the majority of our time.

Construction

CB2's TPS filing cabinet is made of steel sheet with stainless steel handles. The material feels durable and sturdy. Something I didn't mind treating roughly as I'm confident it can take a beating and still work and look good.

The drawers open smoothly but have a very utilitarian and metal feel and sound, which I consider a small negative for a home environment. Operating the drawers feel better suited for an office environment with a focus on durability, but will still do the job at home. I would have preferred a more muted sound such as when operating wooden drawers.

Utility and Usability

The cabinet comes with four 2" wheels which can be attached if you find yourself needing to wheel these around the room. The three drawers are perfect for storing anything. I personally use Muji gear within the drawers to allow for greater compartmentalization. See my review on Muji desk accessories here.

Design

Akin to CB2s other designs, the cabinet sports a classic and timeless minimal design. I personally like the subtle contrast between the stainless steel handles to the primary color. Other than that, the visuals are fairly classic/basic, in a good way.

Overall, this is a great purchase for about $150! I'd love to know what you use for desk storage and organization in the comments below.
